Brian McGuire works in the Romain College of Business at the University of Southern Indiana as the Associate Dean, Director of Accounting Programs, and Professor of Accounting. Dr. McGuire was the recipient of the “2010 USI Integra Bank Distinguished Professor Award,” which is USI’s highest annual award given to a faculty member. He has also received numerous faculty awards from his college, including faculty awards for teaching, for research, and for service.

He previously served as an Administrator of a medical center, Director of Corporate Operations of a hospital holding company, and as a consultant in the healthcare field. In addition, he has served as a consultant in several other areas, including an Activity-Based Costing (ABC) Implementation Project, a High Technology Assessment Project for the Evansville Regional Economic Development Corporation (Vision 2000), a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Project, and most recently, as an expert witness in an Indiana Superior Court.

Dr. McGuire has broad leadership experience, having served as a director on several global boards. In addition, he served as President of the Board of Trustees for the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA), as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and as Director of Administration and Development for Beta Alpha Psi (BAP). He also served as President of the Board of Trustees for the IMA Research Foundation.

Dr. McGuire currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Institute of Management Accountants, which has more than 80,000 members in 140 countries and 300 professional and student chapters. He also serves as a member of the Accounting Accreditation Committee for AACSB International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and as a Consultant-Evaluator, Specialized Reviewer, and Eligibility Panel Member for the Higher Learning Commission.

In addition, Dr. McGuire currently serves as a member of the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB), which is an independent standard-setting body and an affiliate of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), with 179 member bodies and associates in 130 countries representing approximately 2.5 million accountants. Furthermore, he is a member of the IAESB Steering Committee, and he serves as Chair of the IAESB’s Task Force for the Baseline Study on International Education Standards (IESs) Usage.

In the community, Dr. McGuire has served on numerous charitable and not-for-profit boards. For example, he served as the President of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra (EPO), a multi-million dollar orchestra located in Southwestern Indiana. He also served as Vice President of Finance, and he currently serves as Treasurer and as a Board member, for the Buffalo Trace Council of the Boy Scouts of America. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana, an affiliate of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. Other examples of Dr. McGuire’s community service includes work with Downtown Evansville, Inc., the Tri-State Better Business Bureau, Inc., and the Southwest Indiana Workforce Development Steering Committee.

Dr. McGuire is a frequent speaker for universities, civic organizations, and professional associations, having made over 150 presentations on accounting, ethics, information systems, business, and leadership. He is also the author of over 100 published works and articles, including over fifty journal articles published in several languages. In addition, he has received numerous “Best Paper Awards” at national and international academic conferences, and he has made numerous presentations at national and international meetings. He has traveled extensively with his various activities, which includes travel to 49 states within the United States and travel to 32 countries around the world.

Dr. McGuire has a BS in Accounting from the University of South Alabama, an MBA from the University of South Alabama, and a Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), a Certified Business Manager (CBM), and a Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP), and he has professional experience in both public and corporate accounting.
