Bio

Heather Schmuck, Ed.D,, RT(R) is a Clinical Associate Professor and Clinical Coordinator for the Radiologic & Imaging Sciences program in the College of Nursing and Health Professions. Schmuck is credentialed in radiography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Schmuck has mentored numerous students in professional presentations, involvement, and competitive events in the radiologic sciences at the state and national level and continues to serve as a faculty advisor for imaging science student organizations at USI. Her research is focused on digital imaging, educational technology implementation in the classroom, student perceptions, and interprofessional education. 

Schmuck has been awarded numerous funding awards both internal and external to USI. Schmuck has also been the recipient of several professional achievement awards and recognitions at the international, national, regional, state, and local levels for her dedication to teaching and growing her profession. Schmuck continues to practice in the field to stay abreast of changes and new technologies.

Outside of the University, Schmuck is involved in numerous activities including CPR instruction for various organizations and presentations for area high schools. Schmuck has also been invited to special programs for students specifically interested in a career in the medical sciences to share her knowledge and expertise on the field of imaging sciences. In addition, Schmuck serves as a site visitor for the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, as a coordinator and author for the Indiana State Department of health Limited cardiac Catheterization Radiography Certification Course for Deaconess Gateway, and has previously served as an Item Writer for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists national certification exam  in radiography. She is actively involved in numerous professional organizations related to the imaging sciences and has served in various capacities at the international, national, and state levels. 

She has been recognized as the USI Faculty Advisor of the year in 2021 for her contributions in mentoring the RT Student Organization. In 2015, she received the Faculty Affairs Excellence in Teaching Award for the College of Nursing and Health Professions for her significant contributions to the quality of teaching in the CNHP. She also was awarded the College of Nursing and Health Professions' John M. Lawrence Health Professions Faculty Member Award in 2014 for her dedication to the education of students.
