Bio

Dr. Thomas’s favorite aspect of his career is working with emerging teachers and seeing them succeed. He values them for the excitement and commitment they bring to make themselves, and their future students, better. Mostly he cares about helping others and has been selected for the USI Sydney L. & Sadelle Berger Faculty Community Service Award, the Pott College Excellence in Service Award, the Pott College Excellence in Scholarship Award, and the USI Outstanding Advisor Award. One can read about some of his passion here

His scholarship includes 50+ peer-reviewed articles, 2.5 million in funded projects, 50+ presentations and workshops for teachers and 200+ visits to teach elementary students. He has collaborated with others to write curriculum for the United States Navy, Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, Wesselman Nature Society, and the Evansville Zoo.

Recent initiatives include an ICHE Teacher Recruitment and Retention grant (Indiana-wide mentoring program for K-8 teachers), an IDOE Student Learning Recovery grant (K-8 COVID remediation grant), INSTAR project (identifying recent, high quality children’s literature in science), and Project Connect (teaching lessons to elementary students).
