Bio

Dr. Stephanie L. Young is an Associate Professor in Communication Studies and Director of the Basic Course at the University of Southern Indiana. Her research interests include rhetorical criticism, popular culture, gender and sexuality studies, autoethnography, and issues of race and identity. She has published in a number of scholarly journals including the Journal of International and Intercultural Communication, Communication Theory, Women's Studies in Communication, and Women & Language. She is the co-author of the book Pursuing Popular Culture: Methods for Researching the Everyday. Her recent article, "It's Not Just Black and White: Exploring a Pedagogy of Racial Visibility and the Biracial Korean/White Self" (Departures in Critical Qualitative Research) explores how the performance and interrogation of an interracial identity can be used as a tool for encouraging classroom discussions about race and racism in America.

In her spare time, Dr. Young enjoys analyzing television shows and films, cooking, running, swimming, kayaking, and spending time with her cats McLovin, Sunshine, KitKat, and Waldo.
