Alice Shen earned her MFA in playwriting at Virginia Tech and her BA in English/film studies at James Madison University, and she currently teaches composition, literature, and creative writing at USI.
Her creative background is in theatre, and her full-length play, Entitled, won the Southeastern Theatre Conference’s Charles M. Getchell New Play Award in 2010. Her original one-act plays, The Conversation About the Keys, received a full production by the Evansville Civic Theatre Underground in 2016, and she led STAGEtwo Productions’ inaugural Summer Playwriting Workshop in 2017.
Alice is the Drama Editor of the Southern Indiana Review, and she is also the faculty advisor for the USI Quidditch Team and the Asian Student Association. In the Evansville community, she is a board member of WillowTree of Posey County, a domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy center, for which she also co-coordinates and performs in an annual fundraiser reading of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues.
In her spare time, Alice enjoys solving crossword puzzles, going swing dancing, and treading the boards with the Evansville Shakespeare Players, among many stellar local theatre companies.
